I just finished grappling and am waiting to find out if I go to the next round. I pulled guard and worked from there and half guard but I couldn't finish him. He couldn't submit or pass my guard.

The trip was long, but more comfortable then the first part. I slept and boy was I happy to reach the hotel. I had a day of rest and light cardio. Tomorrow comes the tryouts.

Day 2
Left Chicago on time and traveled most of the night across, in no particular order, Iowa, Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, and when I awoke from the night before, we were in Colorado. Beautiful scenery and I actually got to sleep, all praises and thanks to GOD.
It is currently saturday, 11AM mountain time. I am still faithful that I'm gonna do well. Many thanks to Tommy for posting these blogs, much love to everyone for helping a struggling man try for his dream. You all are a blessing.
Until later, keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

DEA stopped me. They searched my stuff, then let me go.
Then I sat behind a really smelly punk rock guy. Egads!!! Bad way to start the second leg of the trip!

Day 1 -
Coach Jeff dropped me off at the train station, boarded what appeared to be a roomy train. Boy, was I wrong. A trip that was SUPPOSED to take 17 hours to Chicago took nearly 20 hours. Let's rewind those 20.
Slept off an on for a total of maybe hours - each nap interrupted by a nagging cramp or a pain in numerous parts of my body. Times like these I wished I was afraid to fly. At 11:30 or so we finally pulled in... delayed an additional 3 hours due to a train derailment the night before. So here I sit at noon, waiting for my 3:15pm and a 41 hour train ride to L.A., but I'm staying in high faith and ready to do my best.
More to come tonight.

Videos coming soon!
From Jeff:
Vivek Lost his 3rd fight by split decision. It was the best fight of the tournament. Super close with vivek winning first two rounds. Najim won all 3 fights for the gold medal.
From Misty:
Vivek fought three fights in a four fight bracket for his weight class. The first fight was won by unanimous decision, the second by split decision, and the third he lost by split decision. He put on quite a show! We were all shocked by the results of his last fight...it was very close! Several other fighters actually came over to Vivek afterward to give him their support and let him know how great the fight was. It was a very tough tournament for his weight class (the overall winner KO'd his opponent with a kick to the head in the first round!). Videos for Vivek's fights will all be posted shortly. In the meantime, be sure to send a shout out to Vivek for those two hard earned victories in the tournament! He may not be bringing home a belt, but he put forth a valiant effort! WE LOVE YOU, CHAMP!

Thanks to Red Dog Events, we were able to be a part of the "Great Urban Race" and 600 different folks had to find us, do a 5 minute kickboxing lesson as part of their task/clue. From 1:00 - 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 2nd, participants came in pairs, big and small groups, coming in and out of our school just to receive their 5 minute lesson. It was defeinitely entertaining, hectic and fun watching! Imagine walking right through the door, and Derek orders them to "20 Pushups, 20 Squats and 20 Situps" right off the bat.

All,
we should create a demo team for our school for various events. We just missed an opportunity at the Asian Festival in which there were some open time slots. I have alot of experience with demos from my days at various kung fu schools. this is a good chance for people to be aware of our school and make business.
All we need to do is have a demo team meeting before an event and go over the routines.
What i want to go for is:
BJJ team- we can show some warm up drills, some basic takedowns and finishing moves: teach the crowd common names of techniques that they might see in UFC, Affliction and the Ultimate fighter TV show. i am interesting in creating a two-person flow drill fighting form of BJJ techniques for demo but it is not totally necessary but would be cool.
Ultimate fitness kick boxing- the women can go over a 5 min. sample of exercises and drill that are done in class: have techno music and some girly girls.
Muay thai- show examples of kick and punch combinations on thai pads that we do at the school.
Boxing- go over some basic punch combinations.
MMA- show example of techniques and moves done, similar to the common techniques seen in ufc and pride.
I know that several Thai temples have events, and other festivals, I can get in touch with promoters and see if our school can get slots. When i do get some slots i will need voluteers. who is down?

Wilson Reis & Godoi Seminar:
Thanks to Wilson Reis and his instructor Roberto Godoi for giving an excellent No-Gi seminar this weekend Mar 22, 08'. We had a good turn out to support Reis and Godoi followed by some exciting grappling. Wilson is preparing for his April 5th fight on Elite XC against UFC Vet Doug Evans and Godoi is preparing for the BJJ Pan-Ams next Weekend (Mar 29th).
Speaking of the Brazilian Jiujitsu Pan-Ams in California, we wish lots of luck to those going out next weekend to compete, specifically Travis Harrington and Noah Booth. They have been training very hard!
Special congratulations to current member Pete Snell. He has been on a grappling competition tear as last weekend, he competed at the Valhalla grappling tournament in Sterling Mar 15th, taking 1st place, beating a Blue Belt from that area, 6x2. This past weekend, he competed in Andrew Smith's No-Time Limit/Submission Only Grappling Competition, winning both of his matches by submission. Pete's 1st match went 17 minutes! Look for big things from him in the future.

Former Team Lloyd Irvin Coach Dave Kaplan was on NBC's "The Singing Bee"
this week and worked his way up to the final round winning the $50,000 grand
prize. The show which is seen by millions of people, is a game show where a
contestant has to fill in the blanks on song lyrics to test their knowledge
of hit songs. The Singing Bee theme for that day was "Girl Power" so Dave
had to lock into his memory banks on such artist as - Madonna, Pat Benatar,
Julia Andrews, just to name a few. Here is a clip of the event on NBC's
Singing Bee website staring Dave Kaplan doing his thing:

Memorial Day Weekend, Team Lloyd Irvin--Arlington had competitors compete in two prestigious grappling tournaments. On Saturday, May 26th, we had Maria Valenzuela compete in one of the top rated North American Judo tournaments, the Am-Cams which draws 700-800 of the top Judo Players from all over North America. Maria had three hard fought matches, losing in the finals and taking 2nd place in the women 73kg Black Belt division! Losing only to the #2 ranked woman's Judoka on points. This is a big step for Maria as she plans on competing in a lower weight class in the next big Judo tournament. That same day, we had five members of our competition team travel to Pittsburgh, Pa to compete in the Kumite Classic ( www.kumiteclassic.com). This competition is an Rated event under the World Grappling League. In the Gi divisions, Travis Harrington took 3rd place (White Belt), Derek Seirra 2nd place (Blue Belt), Tim Koren 1st Place (Blue Belt) & Sean Gutridge 1st Place! In the No-Gi Advance divisions, Derek 2nd Place, & Sean took 1st place! Watch for all of these competitors on June 23rd at the Diamond State Games in Delaware.

Dave Kaplan (Team Lloyd Irvin) vs Christiano Marcello (Chute Boxe)
Well the fights are over and the results are in. Team Lloyd Irvin David Kaplan lost second round by triangle choke. First round saw David and his opponent exchanging lots of punches and kicks. Once it hit the ground we saw lots of action with having to defend submission after submission. With about 20 seconds left in the 1st round Dave escaped an armbard and end up on top. From there Dave started releasing a storm of punches that looked like the fight might be stopped. Then the bell rang. End of round one.
Round two saw more of the standing game and lots of clinhing as both men looked tired. Dave did a reversal taking the fight to the ground but ended up with getting caught in a triangle choke. As Dave tried to escape the triangle choke got extremely tight. Dave was forced to tap with 2:30 remaining in round 2. Dave got some great International experience and it will only help him grow into an even stronger fighter.
Dave Kaplan's Fight Video coming soon...
Mike Easton (Team Lloyd Irvin) VS Hudson Rocha (Brazilian Top Team)
Mike Easton wins by Knock Out in the second round. It started off VERY rough for Mike as he got caught in the choke early in round one. Everyone had told us that Hudson was extremely good at this choke and if he catches you with it the fight would be over. Well the first part was correct, but the fight the last part was not. Mike escaped the choke but was almost out on his feet. Hudson throws a BIG flying knee almost catching Mike, then takes Mike to the ground where the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt wanted to finish the fight.
Mikes jiu jitsu skills held up and the ref told the fighters to stand back up. Hudson screamed “NO”, then refused to get up, after a talking from the ref the fight was restarted and the rest is history.

On Saturday, December 2, 2006, Casey Campbell fought in his first Muay Thai bout at the New Alhambra in Philadelphia, PA. Casey came out strong, winning the first round. In the 2nd round and 3rd round, his opponent threw more kicks than Casey, therefore, winning the fight 29-28 (2 rounds to 1) and lost by decision. This was Casey's first fight and we are extremely proud of his progress at our school. This is just the beginning for Casey and we are preparing for a quick comeback. We expect to see him in the ring fighting soon again. See below a video clip of the first round from his fight Sat night.
Casey's Fight Video coming soon...
On another note, instructor Dave Carter, was asked to fight last minute on Saturday night's card. He was given basically 5 hours notice. The promoter called and asked if we had a heavy weight available to fight on the card and Dave Carter agreed. Please note: We normally do not do last minute fight arrangements. However, the promoter insisted it was going to be good with 2 minute rest time. Dave has been doing mostly in house training and sparring. The last time he fought a Muay Thai event was two years ago! Dave put up an awesome fight, stopping his opponent in the first round with a leg kick. His opponent went down thinking he had broken a bone but when the doctor checked on him he discovered he was fine and able to continue. By this time the fight had already been stopped for over a minute, and his opponent's corner asked Carter if he wanted to continue. Carter wanting to put on a good show agreed and it was back to business. Carter finished the fight with 2 more knockdowns that left his opponent winded and hurt and won by decision after going through three rounds of punishing his opponent. Although he felt a little "out of shape" for lack of preparation for the fight, he was confident, ready to go, fast
food style.
Dave Carter's Fight Video coming soon...

Fury FC announces some single matches for November 30th:
Daniel Acacio, Delson "Pe de Chumbo", Cristiano Marcello and others added to
the card!
The night of November 30th is rapidly approaching and Fury FC 2 - Final
Combat is finally taking shape, with more bouts being announced officially
by GSE, the company that produces Fury FC, adding all the elements that are
needed for an exciting fighting card. With the finals of the 93 kg Grand
Prix set to take place and gather a lot of attention at Tom Brasil, in Sao
Paulo, where the show will take place, a lot of curiosity was surrounding
the announcement of the single matches that would fill the card, and now
some of them are revealed showing the potential for a truly action-packed
night of fights.
Coming from the famous Chute Boxe academy in Brazil, and a veteran of
Pride Bushido, Daniel Acacio is coming to Fury FC willing to claim his place
among the top fighters at his weight class in the world. With a solid MMA
career that includes a win over Pride Bushido Welterweight GP champion Kazuo
Misaki, Acacio will have his hands full rematching IFL veteran Delson "Pe de
Chumbo" Heleno, from Gracie Barra Combat Team, as Delson is eager to avange
his loss of years ago, and show the amount of improvement he has put on his
game every since their first bout. Also a Pride Bushido veteran, and also
coming from the Chute Boxe academy, Jiu Jitsu black belt Cristiano Marcello
will be making his Fury FC debut facing Lloyd Irving Team's representative
David Kaplan, who also trains Muay Thai at Vos Gym in Holland and comes to
fight with hopes of extending his undefeated record into the big scene.
Kaplan won't be the only American on the card though, as Reality Fighting
champion Mike Easton brings an undefeated record to Fury FC as well, facing
experienced Brazilian Top Team representative Hudson Rocha, in what has the
tools to be an evenly matched bout. In the middle of all those interesting
debuts, BJJ stand out Givanildo Santana will be returning to the show, after
a win over French Boris Jonstomp at FFC 1. Santana is a former Jiu Jitsu
world champion, brings his MMA experience from fighting in Korea and the
USA, in a battle against Italian kickboxer Michelle Verdinelli. Two more
bouts are to be added at anytime, as Fury FC 2 - Final Combat takes place
next November 30th in Sao Paulo, Brazil!
Fury FC 2 - Final Combat:
Thursday, November 30th, Tom Brasil, Sao Paulo.
Single Matches:
Daniel Acacio (Chute Boxe) x Delson "Pe de Chumbo" Heleno (Gracie Barra
Combat Team)
Givanildo Santana (Lotus) x Michelli Verdinelli (Italy)
Cristiano Marcello (Chute Boxe) x David Kaplan (Lloyd Irvin Team)
Hudson Rocha (Brazilian Top Team) x Mike Easton (Lloyd Irvin Team)
